A groundbreaking success story unfolds in Ghana, where Delft Imaging Ghana LTD, in collaboration with Ghana's Ministry of Health, has successfully wrapped up the ORIO Project. This ambitious initiative aimed to revolutionize tuberculosis (TB) detection and treatment in the country, and the results are nothing short of remarkable.
The ORIO Project, a €21 million endeavor funded by the Netherlands, has left a lasting impact on Ghana's healthcare system. Through this project, Delft Imaging has supplied and installed an impressive 52 multifunctional digital X-ray systems across the nation. This includes innovative solar-powered containerized systems, fixed-room X-ray setups, mobile screening vans, and portable units, ensuring that even remote areas have access to cutting-edge technology.
But here's where it gets even more impressive: Delft Imaging didn't stop at just providing the equipment. They established a nationwide tele-radiology platform, connecting healthcare facilities and enabling real-time image sharing and expert consultations. This means that no matter where a patient is located, they can receive timely and accurate diagnoses.
And this is the part most people miss: Delft Imaging integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the mix. Their CAD4TB software uses AI to automate TB detection from chest X-rays, revolutionizing the speed and accuracy of diagnoses.
The project didn't just benefit patients; it also empowered local health professionals. Delft Imaging delivered comprehensive capacity-building initiatives, training over 340 doctors, physician assistants, radiographers, and engineers across the country. This ensures that the knowledge and skills gained through the project will continue to benefit Ghana's healthcare system long into the future.
The closing ceremony, held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, was a testament to the project's success. It brought together key stakeholders, including the Dutch Ambassador to Ghana, representatives from the Ministry of Health, and media organizations. The event celebrated Ghana's progress towards universal access to modern TB screening technologies and highlighted the transformative impact of the ORIO Project.
But the story doesn't end there. Delft Imaging, building on the success of the first phase, has proposed an ambitious Phase II. This next phase aims to equip 150 hospitals nationwide with state-of-the-art digital X-ray systems, AI-driven diagnostic tools, and tele-radiography solutions. With strong interest from Invest International Capital and a potential €30 million financing package from the Dutch Government, this proposal has the potential to further revolutionize healthcare in Ghana.
So, what's next? Delft Imaging is calling on the Government and the Ministry of Finance to consider this proposal for the upcoming 2026 budget. By doing so, they can build upon the successes of the ORIO Project, creating a seamless and efficient healthcare system focused on patient care.
